Günter Brus (Ardning 1938) is one of Austria's most important and radical performance artists. Together with Otto Mühl, Hermann Nitsch and Rudolf Schwarzkogler, he founded Viennese Actionism in 1962. The claim was to break the prevailing structures in the art business. His first performances were radical, progressive and taboo-breaking. One of the most sensational was the action "Art and Revolution," which went down in art history as the "Uni-Ferkelei." In addition to actionism and performance, painting and drawing are also an important part of his work. The physical and the expenditure during the artistic process characterize Brus' drawings. In 1996 Günter Brus was awarded the Grand Austrian State Prize for Fine Arts. The BRUSEUM in Graz shows a permanent collection and research focus on the work of Günter Brus.
