Ilse Haider (Salzburg 1965) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Arnulf Rainer and at the Royal College of Art in London. In her works, the photographer and painter questions the quality and spatial structure of photographic images, elevating them to three-dimensionality through overlaps, superimpositions, and application to peddigree. Ilse Haider uses images of famous film actors and mannequins for her photographic objects by breaking down the original images into fragments and applying them to a mesh of wickerwork, so that the portrait in question can only be seen from a single, ideal point of view, but shifts beyond recognition when viewed from the side.
