Alexander Wagner (Achern/D 1978) studied at the University of the Arts in Berlin and at the Faculdade de Belas Artes in Lisbon. In 2018, Wagner received a recognition award of the STRABAG Artaward International. In his versatile use of diverse materials and techniques, he balances between abstraction and object, surface and spatial illusion, and between the media of drawing and painting. Watercolors, silkscreens, gouache and acrylic paintings, as well as enamels, have a firm place in Wagner's repertoire. The artist's works are characterized in particular by their language of color and form: Among other things, Wagner chooses simple geometric shapes and transfers them to his subjects. The works are thus reduced to their essence, color serves the artist as a starting point. In his exhibitions, the artist repeatedly focuses on spatial intervention, which responds to the existing exhibition architecture and changes it in its spatial experience. Alexander Wagner lives and works in Berlin.
