Hilde Frodl (Graz 1911-1978 Klagenfurt) was educated at the School of Applied Arts in Graz, where she also taught the class of fabric painting from 1929-1938. She then moved to Carinthia, where the painters of the Nötscher Kreis, especially Anton Mahringer and Anton Kolig, had a great influence on her artistic work. Frodl became a member of the Carinthian Art Association and regularly participated in exhibitions. The Carinthian landscape and the special southern light characterized her work, yet Frodl's oeuvre also includes portraits and still lifes. After the end of the war Hilde Frodl took up intensive travel activities: Her stays in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Dalmatia, Greece, Turkey and Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica became the inspiration for numerous watercolors, drawings and charcoal sketches. In 1955, the artist traveled to Paris to study Classical Modernism. Hilde Frodl was awarded, among others, the Austrian State Prize/Recognition Prize for Painting and promotional Awards of the City of Klagenfurt and the Carinthian Provincial Government.
