Ulrike Köppinger (Schwerin/DE 1984) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Köppinger's paintings and drawings arise from her memory. The seen and experienced comes from numerous walks. However, the artist is not interested in reproducing nature, but rather to give visual impression, but also to process feelings in her works. Her themes are far-reaching and span dualities such as culture and nature, woman and man, human and animal, inside and outside. The raw canvas is gradually filled with lines and shapes reminiscent of mountain peaks, bushes, flowers, foliage, or moss. Köppinger draws on very different materials to create her impressions of nature - oil, charcoal, pencil, pastels - with their help she creates various structures on the canvas that appear like notes, found objects that have anchored themselves in memory and now fragmentarily end up on the support material. All of them are executed with a meticulous delicacy and appear like hints that are connected to each other. A kind of harmony and rhythm can be discerned in her works, similar to those which creeps in when walking in nature. An artistic contemplation.
