Art Award 5/2005
MICHELA GHISETTI
Feminine but not feminist, open and at the same time mysterious, spontaneous but also meditative, autobiographical but also archetypal, the artist engages in a dialogue with the world, in which she acts as both a recipient and a giver by developing the possibility of making statements about the world in meet the world. Dreams are not dreamed, but embodied.
The question of "give" and "take" has become an essential question for the artist over the years, which is repeatedly reflected in recent works. In the paintings with the white spheres of light, spots or chandeliers, the painting process is in resonance with the question of how much light is needed. Furthermore, the selected fabric backgrounds (often black and white striped) not only depict a spatial structure, but also irritate the vibration of the light through their material character by impairing the physiological perceptibility of the recipient's eye. The topic of light is "transmitted" or conveyed on two different levels, both through the artistic message and through its physiological carrier. In this multilayered as well as fragmentary arrangement, painting is also a collage in the broadest sense.

Simple landscapes that tell of a banal everyday occurrence, looks that are generally quickly forgotten. Captured in pictures, however, they reveal a reality to us, cause an echo in our memories that is mostly beyond the simply namable ...
The solo exhibition in the Art Lounge of the Strabag House shows a spacious room staging with framed drawings on wallpapered walls on the subject of femininity as well as painting on fabric and small-format collages.
The female sex, pretentiously portrayed, surrounded by figures of knights, gives an insight into the intimate sphere of various types of women, whose mental and physical sensitivities are portrayed in the form of a psychogram. Private and autobiographical matters flow here. Family, eroticism, lustful culinary delights, fluctuating feelings such as love, doubt, pain are united in the artist's world, which is sparkling with vitality, sophistication, spontaneity and sensuality. The woman on her winding path to herself frees herself from life lies and compulsions in an unconventional way and with self-irony and offers her idea of interpersonal values. Michela Ghisetti deals with the view of the female gender, which in art history seems to be male-dominated. The starting point was Gustave Courbet's famous painting "LOrigine du monde (1866)", which the artist transformed into funny, ironic, portrait-like depictions of the female sex with different hairstyles as a mirror of personality and temperament. Matching, specially selected wallpaper shone through the fragrant leaves drawn on Japanese paper, which caused the delicate genre to merge with the rest of the exhibition. The artist's courageous, very personal statement was very well received.
The work "Vienna, Vienna, not just you alone", where a chandelier adorns the picture in the center, comes from an earlier phase of work. Even if the native Italian, who has lived in Vienna for over twelve years, discovered the chandelier as a striking classicist style element of Austrian living culture earlier, the juxtaposition with the swinging Parma ham is more an ironic positioning of a cultural (or culinary) confrontation to read two different ways of life ...
For Michela Ghisetti, the paintings are essentially "light images" that are created through meditative and repetitive painting of the white spheres of light. They symbolize the existing potential energies or resources of the human being, which constitute his essence when they are not buried. In them the artist develops new energy fields that have an effect on herself and on the world.
