Verena Neuwirth (Graz 1997) works with putty and ink, but also with acrylic and lacquer pencil. Her pictorial compositions are predominantly abstract. With a broad palette of colours and impulsive gestures, she plays with the carrier material, namely painting cardboard, on which she applies putty. The impasto layer forms the base and the first level of her work. Neuwirth takes up this base - in its rough, coarse consistency and relief-like structure - as a means of design and continues her artistic working process on it. She gradually adds colour and creates traces of painting on the monochrome surface. Neuwirth applies the acrylic paint in different ways - whether by letting the paint run, creating coarse areas of colour or simply wiping the brush with a little paint to just hint at the artistic process. When completed, her works are a kind of hybrid of painting and object.
The artist lives and works in Styria.
