Markus Prachensky (Innsbruck 1932-2011 Vienna) was a founding member of the artist group "Nächst St. Stephan" and professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1983 to 2000. After figural beginnings, Prachensky turned to abstract painting in the 1950s and remained a consistent representative of Informel Art until his death. Prachensky's work is reduced to the essential, the stroke and the color. He called red the color of his life; expressive red tones can be found in almost every one of his works on paper and canvas. He drew inspiration for the motifs of his art from extensive travels, for example to archaeological sites in Rome and Etruria. Many of his artpieces are influenced by his architectural understanding and his involvement with Roman history and architecture. Markus Prachensky's works are in renowned museums and collections. The artist is represented in the STRABAG Artcollection with numerous canvas works, drawings and prints.
