Strabag Kunstforum Artcollection Kampl Gudrun 01

Gudrun Kampl (Klagenfurt 1964) studied experimental design in painting and graphics at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, as well as animation with Maria Lassnig. In 1994 she was awarded the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward. In her textile sculptures, Gudrun Kampl deals with the haptics and the multitude of emotional meanings of fabric. As the main image carrier, red velvet fabric symbolizes protection, veiling, clothing and fetish. It is embroidered, cut and padded. The artist also forms ornaments or letters that, at second glance, contain ironic and stirring details.
