Born in Carinthia, Michael Kravagna (Klagenfurt 1962) has lived in Saint-Séverin, Belgium, since 1993. In 1999 he received the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward. Color as a structure is at the center of his work: its materiality and sensuality are explored, and through their layering, purely painterly constellations of form emerge over long working periods, which act like magical color protocols. By playing with change and repetition, Michael Kravagna experiments on his canvases with interweavings, spatial structures and material transformation processes.
