Viktor Lederer (Vienna 1935-2017 Vienna) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Franz Elsner. Already as a young artist in the early 1960s, he exhibited at the Secession and the Künstlerhaus Wien, among other venues. Lederer's style can be located in classical modernism and post-expressionism, with the artist thematically concerned with depictions of landscape and a traditional, simple life. Viktor Lederer always spent summers in Sankt Margarethen in Burgenland, which meant that this picturesque place with its narrow lanes and the surrounding wide plains repeatedly became his motif. The artist captured his admiration for nature and light on his canvases with pastose application of paint. The use of the complementary colors and dramatic lighting create atmosphere and drama in Lederer's works. In his later work, the artist also devoted himself to the Weinviertel, Mühlviertel and Waldviertel regions, among others, where he also found numerous picturesque and original motifs. His works are in numerous Austrian collections, including Leopold Museum, Volkskundemuseum or Burgenländische Landesregierung. Viktor Lederer passed away after a long serious illness in 2017.
