Siegfried Anzinger (Weyer/Upper Austria 1953) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1971 to 1977. Already in 1982, the co-founder of the "Neuen Wilden" participated in documenta 7 in Kassel and represented Austria at the Venice Biennale in 1988. Since 1998 he has been professor of painting and graphic arts at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Siegfried Anzinger, whose paintings are characterized by expressive abstraction, extreme color dynamics and a sweeping ductus, only devoted himself to drawing intensively and for a longer period of time around the turn of the millennium. Using pencil and watercolor brush, Anzinger captures the most intrinsic qualities of drawing, the rapid, fleeting, and immediate. In the process, he produced many hundreds of works on paper with primarily biblical scenes, such as crucifixions, the creation of animals or depictions of the Madonna, of which a group of over 20 sheets is part of the STRABAG Artcollection.
