Strabag Kunstforum Artcollection Boafo Amoako 01

Amoako Boafo (Accra/Ghana 1984) completed his artistic training at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design in Accra and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he also met his artistic idols Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. The artist has devoted himself entirely to portraiture. His protagonists appear graceful and elegant, pointing to a central theme of Boafo's: "Black Experience" - an experience he learned more intensely when he began his studies in Vienna, and which he incorporates in his works. His figures confidently represent the "black diaspora" - proud, present and spacey, embedded in colorful fashion. Boafo applies paint mostly with his fingers, simultaneously creating rough and delicate elements that highlight the essence of his sitters and create works with a distinctive style. Amoako Boafo received the main prize at the 2019 STRABAG Artaward International and is now one of the world's most successful artists. The STRABAG Artcollection features several works by the artist, including two self-portraits.
