Sali Ölhafen (Innsbruck 1959) has been dealing with the theme of form for many years, whereby her starting point is always a central form on the picture surface, which is overlaid or underlaid by several different layers. For Ölhafen, form represents a synthesis between chaos and order. In her works, the artist uses such diverse materials as lacquer, acrylic, graphite, ink, linen, plastic, and aluminum, as well as newsprint and bubble wrap, whose uniform grids lend structure to the picture surface. The newspaper material contains omnipresent world events, but Ölhafen overlays this with numerous layers of paint. In 1998, Sali Ölhafen received a Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of the STRABAG Artaward.
