Lena Göbel (Ried im Innkreis 1983) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the class for printmaking and printmaking techniques with Gunter Damisch. Göbel relates painting, printmaking and a sculptural level to each other. The basis of her works always remains the woodcut: this old printmaking technique forms the foundation of her work, but she approaches the traditional process with contemporary impulses and ideas. Woodcut and painting combine on the canvas to form a multi-layered collage-like body of work. Not only the technical complexity, but also the juxtaposition of figurative and abstract elements provide the irritation deliberately generated by the artist. The predominantly large-format works form a conglomerate of the most diverse and ambiguous fragments. For Lena Göbel, an emotional and intuitive approach is an essential component of her work and allows a wide scope of interpretation in the reception.
