Inspired by many years of working in the studio of Cornelius Kolig in the Carinthian Gailtal, Guido Katol (Villach 1962) studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna with Maria Lassnig. The artist has always devoted himself entirely to painting. Katol focuses on the painterly realization and execution of the picture surface, the texture of skin or fur, the depiction of movement, perspective and dynamics. With gestural, expressive execution, Katol stages moments in which man and animal meet on the canvas in an unusual way. Their role and relationship to each other, their feelings, their (supposedly) harmonious interaction and their facial expressions and gestures, on the other hand, remain mostly indistinct.
