Georg Haberler (Graz/AT 1985) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, but today he creates his works mainly with a sewing machine. The decision to do so was rather instinctive, he wanted to change the white of the canvas in a different way than just with paint and so he decided to sew. On his canvases he combines abstract and figurative elements. All sorts of animals - giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, among others - float, walk, stand on pillars, cars or flowerpots and everything seems to be somehow interwoven. Together they form a narrative that allows for countless interpretations. Haberler, however, is not concerned with telling a concrete story. In a playful and humorous way, he lets animals and objects interact and forms a unique cosmos in his works, which is to be discovered individually.
