Hungarian artist Márta Czene (Budapest 1982) works with photography, drawing, video and painting. She draws her inspiration from art history and films, but also from psychology. In her work she mixes reality and fiction and combines them with forms of design that refer to concrete films. Her painted images look like storyboards, sometimes surrounded by a white frame that clearly separates and subdivides the images or places them close together without distance. At first glance, the respective pictorial contents seem incoherent or like a sequence of different scenes. Czene prefers sterile sceneries that are rendered hyperrealistically. The people depicted in her work are models or even she herself. Close-ups or unusual perspectives are deliberately used by Czene to create tension. Nevertheless, there is always room for the viewer's own interpretation. Márta Czene won the STRABAG Artaward International in 2011.
